Banned word: Environment

My objection to “environment” is that it’s too vague.  It is used in too many places.  It means “stuff around you” - which is kind of wide.  In debate, it is used to describe too many phenomena, from the effects of pollution to litter, to biological diversity and building design.  Now, these issues may be related but only weakly.  The cases for them being good or bad, areas for action or inaction are separate and should be the subject of separate debates.  That dumping mercury in a bay is bad does not prove that adding a porch to a 16th century house is bad.
